"""Safety regression scoring: refusal, over-refusal, Wilson intervals, guard metrics.

Purpose
Score a model's responses for (a) refusal rate on harmful prompts and (b) over-refusal
(false refusal) rate on benign-but-edgy prompts, before and after fine-tuning, with
Wilson 95% intervals and an exact McNemar test on the paired items; and score a
    custom 5-category guard classifier with per-category precision / recall / F1 and
    macro vs micro averages.

Module
LLM Fine-Tuning Deep Dive, module 19 (Safety, Forgetting, and Responsible
    Fine-Tuning), labs L19.1 and L19.2.

Hardware tier
--smoke: CPU, stdlib only, under a second. Scores inline fixtures with a keyword
judge and asserts the numbers quoted in module 19.
--full : T1 (single 24 GB GPU). Generates responses with vLLM (or transformers as a
fallback) for a base model and a fine-tuned model / LoRA adapter on XSTest
(CSV from the authors' GitHub repo pinned to a commit; prompts CC-BY-4.0), judges
them with a guard model (allenai/wildguard via `pip install wildguard`; gated, Apache-2.0) and with
the keyword judge, and reports both. `--train-sft` trains the L19.1 LoRA on
databricks/databricks-dolly-15k, optionally with a fraction of Bianchi et
al.'s safety examples mixed in. `--train-guard` trains the L19.2
             sequence-classification LoRA guard and writes its test predictions;
`--guard-preds` scores such a predictions file.

Pinned versions for the full lab (as of October 2026)
Python 3.11+, torch 2.8+, transformers 5.x, peft 0.21.x, vllm (a release supported by
your transformers version), wildguard (pip package).
